A touch of cheer

While I think most everyone understands that certain colors work well for different seasons (dark purples, etc for winter; bright blues, etc for summer), it seems like when I’m dressing for work a lot of the the time that I wear my full wardrobe. When you’re in an office, it’s easy to want to throw on that simple (maybe dark colored) sweater and head out the door.

I decided to brighten up my color palette a bit this day with this bright yellow top. It’s one of those shirts that might be too much during the winter, but is perfect during this time of the year.

What do you think about the tones of color by season? Do you find yourself wearing the same colors year round?

Rain, rain, go away!

It’s official. We’re on record for the rainiest April since the 30′s. And it’s not stopping anytime soon. Because we’ve been looking at so many apartments (We finally found one and I can’t wait to share it with you!), I’ve had to dress to fend off the weather. This means lots of layers and water-proof boots to keep my feet dry.

How are you dealing with this crazy weather?

Bling, bling

Sometimes the best way to take an outfit from “eh” to “wow” is with accessories. Handbags, necklaces, bangles or earrings will do the trick! The key is finding the perfect balance of “wow” without it being a “uh, wow!” reaction. It’s hard to tell but I took an “eh” outfit up a notch here with matching purple shoes and necklace.

Trip to Louisville

Last weekend we went to Louisville for a quick weekend getaway (and to see Gaga!) and we had a blast!

On Saturday before the concert we did all of the standards including:

  • Louisville Slugger Museum/Bat Factory
  • Tour of Churchill Downs
  • Stopped by Glasworks (didn’t get to make anything because of timing)

If you have a free weekend and are in the area, I highly recommend spending some time in Louisville!

….and here’s what I wore to see Gaga! I was probably one of the tamest dressed there but I also got lots of compliments of not looking as, um, undressed as many girls. (This was taken on my phone because they wouldn’t allow standard cameras.)

Pulling it all together

If you’ve read this site long, you know I’m a huge fan of keeping in simple. One statement piece and then support pieces around it. However, every once in awhile I like to mix statement pieces for a really noticeable outfit. Whether it’s mixing colors, patterns or accessories, pulling various statement pieces together into one outfit can take your outfit to a whole new level.

Keeping it simple

Some days you just need to go basic and add a few statement pieces. I started my outfit feeling pretty uninspired but once I added the boots and the necklace I felt much better about the outfit and actually really liked it by the end of the day!
