One of my favorite things about Halloween is it gives you a chance to be transported into any era or dream that you might not otherwise get to live in. Some of my favorite costumes are definitely period pieces. Think of a great flapper dress from the 20s or tie dye and bell bottoms from the 70s.
This week I’m going to be featuring some outfit ideas for Halloween. To start, let’s go with a Mad Men secretary!
I received a great little table book all about the life of a Mad Men character, courtesy of Penguin Publishing Group. It’s fully illustrated by the creators of the ‘Mad Men Yourself‘ craze.

Some of sections of the book include:
and finally… my favorite section!
The book was great inspiration for this outfit and would be awesome to teach you how to do your hair and make-up for whatever Halloween party you’re headed to. The key to choosing clothes and accessories for this outfit is to find items that are classic staples (think sort of Audrey Hepburn/Jackio O-type clothes) and accessorize like crazy! These girls wear gloves, brooches, jackets, necklaces and more! Here’s a little inspiration but I think finding things vintage/thrifted is the way to go with this outfit!
Guess what? You can get a copy of the book for yourself!
You can purchase the book for about $11 on Amazon. Even better, one lucky reader will get to win a copy of this book! Here’s how you can enter:
That’s it! The giveaway will be open until Monday, November 1st at 11:59 p.m.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of the Mad Men: The Illustrated World book as part of this review. I received no other compensation for this post and the views are solely mine.
This giveaway has ended. Thank you for entering.
This season of Mad Men may not be as amazing as last season, but it’s pretty dang close. If you don’t want it I’d suggest getting the DVDs of previous seasons and making a marathon of it so that you can catch up in time for Sunday’s episode. One thing I’ve really noticed is that the style team is branching out a little more with some of the outfits on the girls.
All of this secretary style made me want to get really dressed up one day for work. On my way out the door I even grabbed a brooch (unseen here – *slap on the wrist*).
What are you channeling from your favorite shows this season?
