Winter Cold

After a quick burst of warmth, we’re feeling the cold of winter again here in St. Louis. Missouri is one of those states where you get all four beautiful seasons, but unfortunately not a lot of snow in the winter – just freezing cold temps day after day.

While I have a lot of coats and jackets, when it gets this cold I tend to wear this same one day after day. It’s made of wool and the length is long enough to keep most of my body covered and toasty. Paired with some gloves and a scarf, I’m ready for even the coldest of temps. I bought this coat three years ago during an after-Christmas sale at Dillard’s, I believe. Coming in at right around $100, this thing probably has a better cost per wear than anything in my closet.

Winter Coat

Bow belt

I’ve been wearing this side bun a lot lately. It’s just as easy as my low bun I’ve been wearing all year but I like how it gives me a tad more interest from the front.

Matchy matchy

I was reading in Lucky Mag the other day about how the idea of matching your accessories is coming back. While they were mostly talking about color, I love the idea of matching prints, fabrics (think of patent and patent!) or something else.

I decided to give it a try with matching my bag to my shoes. I decided to make them stand out by giving them a basic backdrop.

What do you think? Is matching accessories back in or are you more of an eclectic dresser (like me!)?

Fighting the heat wave

As I’m sure all of you know, it’s miserable outside! Even though I work in an office, I still get a feel for the heat. I’ve been trying to wear light, breezy outfits without exposing myself and without freezing myself in the AC.

How are you fighting this weather?

P.S. Welcome to my new digs!

Trip to Louisville

Last weekend we went to Louisville for a quick weekend getaway (and to see Gaga!) and we had a blast!

On Saturday before the concert we did all of the standards including:

  • Louisville Slugger Museum/Bat Factory
  • Tour of Churchill Downs
  • Stopped by Glasworks (didn’t get to make anything because of timing)

If you have a free weekend and are in the area, I highly recommend spending some time in Louisville!

….and here’s what I wore to see Gaga! I was probably one of the tamest dressed there but I also got lots of compliments of not looking as, um, undressed as many girls. (This was taken on my phone because they wouldn’t allow standard cameras.)

Pulling it all together

If you’ve read this site long, you know I’m a huge fan of keeping in simple. One statement piece and then support pieces around it. However, every once in awhile I like to mix statement pieces for a really noticeable outfit. Whether it’s mixing colors, patterns or accessories, pulling various statement pieces together into one outfit can take your outfit to a whole new level.
