If you’re in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is likely to be one of the most important events on the horizon and there’s just a few days left before the big day.

Whether you’ve booked a table at your favorite restaurant for a romantic meal for two, you’re just spending the day with that special someone or you’re hanging out with your best friends and enjoying the single life, don’t forget to put some thought into what you’re going to be wearing.

Here are a few tips for planning your Valentine’s Day outfit:

Coordinate with the situation

You’ll need to make your outfit location-appropriate. No one wants to see a girl trying to go for a picnic in a mini skirt, but feel free show off your stunning in a belted dress.

Color is key

On Valentine’s Day, the colors you choose to wear become even more important than usual. Colors can let someone know exactly how you’re feeling, so put some thought into the color of your Valentine’s Day outfit when buying. Wearing an outfit that’s aglow with sumptuous reds will instantly convey a message of love – just like red roses can. Similarly, a dress that’s mainly made up of dazzling whites can make you look sweet and innocent, so be sure to pick the right color.

Accessorize!

As with all outfits, the way to bring everything together nicely is to make the most of your jewelry and accessories. If want your date to pay the most attention to you (and what you’re wearing), you might find that understated jewelry is the better option. Rather than wearing chunky bracelets and statement necklaces, opt instead for low-key charm bracelets, chain necklaces and simple rings.

I often get comments from friends that I never wear the same thing twice. While I would love to have the wardrobe to pull that off, it often appears that way. How do I do it? By layering various pieces in new ways each time I wear them keeps my outfits fresh and my wardrobe afforable.

I’ve worn this dress so. many. times. I mean I should probably make a rule I need to wait to wear it again for awhile but I love it. It fits perfectly. It’s unbelievably comfortable. And it’s one of those dresses that I can wear with anything.

Add a key accessory (like a scarf) and it’s a totally different look than if I add a sweater, which is also different from how it looks with a shirt underneath. The list goes on.

When I decided to wear it this week I immediately wanted to look for a new way to wear it. I was in a LBD rut of sorts. Then I realized it would be perfect with this cowl neck dress shirt I don’t wear enough (let’s be honest – I’m just not a business casual girl).

LBD: Cynthia Rowley, TJ Maxx Top: JC Penney Tights: Target? Boots: c/o däv

With spring just around the corner it’s time to observe what makeup trends are supposed to be hot in the coming months. If you’re a fan of pastels, well defined brows, bronzer, and coral shades on the lips, then you’re in luck. According to what was seen on the models during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week that’s exactly what we’re in store for. I’m definitely not disappointed with this makeup prediction simply because I love pastels and especially coral lips! I can’t wait to cozy up on my sofa and apply these fabulous new makeup trends on my face. Here’s what is in store for us and why each makeup look is going to be trendy and beautiful.

Pastel Colors

Pastel makeup colors are both subtle and lovely. Pastels make me think of everything girlie, vintage, and spring time. Pastels makeup will be both natural and gorgeous. With glowing cheeks and subtle pink lip gloss or lip stick, I can certainly see the pastel makeup look going strong for some time.

Corals

Beautiful and bright coral lips will be like the focal point on a painting. Neutral makeup paired against coral lips will look both tropical and lush. Coral is such a stunning color already so I’m excited to see how it looks this spring and beyond. Just imagine complementing coral dresses and necklaces! Gorgeous!

Bronze Lids

Smokey eyes and bronze colors will be returning and you’ll also be seeing a combination of the two. Smokey eyes will be a great evening time look and when you want to tone it down during the day bronze eye shadow will look sparkly and fresh. Pair your bronze eye shadow with bronzer on your cheeks and look all ready to enjoy the summer time that will soon be here after spring!

I can’t wait to see all of these trends appear as spring gets closer. On Pinterest and on other social media sites I’ve already begun to see a few of these trends appear. All three of these makeup looks are more than just trends to me; they are gorgeous fashion statements that I hope stick around beyond spring and summer.

I recently celebrated another birthday and while I’m starting to feel like this whole getting old thing is for the birds, I had a great time celebrating with close friends. We did dinner and drinks in my neighborhood and I couldn’t have asked for a better night.

The past few years I’ve made it a tradition to spend the day of my birthday shopping with leftover Christmas and new birthday money. I finally made it to my local Kohl’s (I thought the closest one was about an hour away but found one only 20 minutes from my apartment) and did some serious damage!

This dress and the boots were both birthday shop-o-rama purchases. While I definitely don’t think this was the best angle for this shot (I’m still training him (: ), I may be obsessed with this dress. I got it super cheap given that it’s definitely a summer dress, but I paired it with my warmest leggings and a pair of riding boots to stay warm. I can’t wait to find lots of ways to wear it as the weather warms up.

Do you ever see a look on someone else or in a magazine and really wish you could replicate that at home? That’s what my new feature ‘Look for Less’ is all about!

First up: Cameron Diaz in a ‘take another look at that stunning skirt and amazing neckline’ dress that is not to be missed!

I adore this dress and would totally wear it to work daily if I could get away with it. Unfortunately, it’s definitely one of those once every few months type of deals given that everyone (I mean everyone) will take notice.

I found a few affordable versions around the web, including:

Unique Vintage – $64

This dress really has the nipped waist and polka dots down! The only thing it’s missing to complete the look is the full skirt.

ModCloth – $92

While this dress may not have the polka dots, if you want that same 50s glamorous housewife look, this is a perfect match! The purple print updates the look for today.

Would you look to don a dress fit for the 50s? Which of these is your favorite?

Last year seemed like the year of the maxi. The 70s trend was back in full force on tall and short girls alike! This year has just begun but I’ve already seen the midi dress pop up in quite a few mags and on a lot of blogs.

The midi is basically a dress that hits below your knee but falls above your ankles. The length really has to be just perfect in order to pull of this look. I’d suggest wearing wedges or some height in your shoes to keep that long, leggy look.

I’m starting a new feature all around some of the best picks for under $25. I picked $25 because that’s really the amount when I start to really consider if I need the item or not. If it’s under $25, it’s easier to justify!

Here are few great, affordable midi dresses!

Etsy | ASOS | Forever 21

Do you love the look of a great manicure but hate spending over $50 a month to keep your fingers and hands looking their best? Treat yourself to some of these top tools, gadgets and products to give yourself your own manicure in the comfort of your own home. These great gadgets have all but eliminated the need to visit the salon every two weeks!

Satin Smooth Paraffin Wax Spa

Every woman knows that the first step to fabulous looking hands is a paraffin wax dip. Simply place six pounds of wax into the tub, turn on the unit and in just four hours you’ll be ready to give your hands the benefit of a wax peel. Once the wax has melted, dip your hands, one at a time, into the warm wax, let the wax cool and peel it off. You’ll peel away the rough, dead skin and, when followed by an intense hand moisturizer, have the softest hands of your life.

Exfoliating Hand Cream

Hands need more moisture than a simple body lotion can provide. For truly soft hands, use an exfoliating moisturizer like Philosophy’s ‘time on your hands’ or a kit like Mary Kay’s ‘Satin Hands’ before bed. Double-duty bonus: works great on elbows, knees and feet, too!

Manicure – Pedicure Caddy

There are a variety of mani/pedi sets on the market for home use. Those offered by Medicool and Revlon consistently receive high ratings from users. The myriad of attachments allow you to buff, shape and file your nails to perfection. We love them because the rechargeable base allows users to easily transport their kit from room to room. You won’t be tied to one room with an electrical cord!

Acrylic Nail Kit

Admittedly, applying your own acrylic nails at home takes a bit of practice. However, the low cost of these kits makes practicing until you get it right quite economical. The easiest kit is the Kiss Pink & White French Acrylic Dip Kit. The easy to follow instructions will give you professional looking results in about an hour. When you’ve perfected your skill, you can apply, fill and maintain your own acrylic manicure with professional kits! Coupled with a manicure caddy, these kits allow you to have fabulous looking hands without having to to have fabulous looking hands without having to schedule an appointment at the salon.

Dry Nail Polish

Perhaps the best inventions of all time are the various dry nail polish setsby Kiss, OPI and Sally Hansen. Simply peel these strips from their backing, apply to your nails and file off the excess. Great for long or short nails, you’ll have a manicure that will last up to ten days without a top coat! Experiment with different brands and styles and see which you like best.Having fabulous hands has never been easier with these great tools and products.

Start off with a paraffin wax dip, exfoliate your hands before bed and apply acrylics or nail polish in the morning and you’ll be ready to show off your gorgeous hands!

I was reading in Lucky Mag the other day about how the idea of matching your accessories is coming back. While they were mostly talking about color, I love the idea of matching prints, fabrics (think of patent and patent!) or something else.

I decided to give it a try with matching my bag to my shoes. I decided to make them stand out by giving them a basic backdrop.

What do you think? Is matching accessories back in or are you more of an eclectic dresser (like me!)?
