While I Was Out: My Bali Playlist

Hi there! While I’m traveling in Bali, I’ve queued up a few travel posts for you all!

First up: What’s on my iPad while we’re traveling? Traveling to Bali will take us about 30 real hours so I need something to keep my sanity. Here’s what I’ve put on my iPad to keep me busy:

  • The Hunger Games Trilogy – I’ve heard rave reviews so I’m expecting the exciting, youth read to keep me interested, but not require too much mind muscle.
  • Suburbs by Arcade Fire – It’s a good, upbeat group of tracks that I haven’t listened to much yet so hopefully it will keep my interest.
  • The Beatles – Anything by The Beatles keeps me happy! Our collection is four discs of their greatest hits so I can listen may way through two decades!
  • Crosswords – This iPad app is one way Bill and I like to keep ourselves amused for long periods of time. I’m hoping we can knock out a few of these together on the plane!
  • Real Solitaire Free – This app is a quick way to pass some time alone while everyone else is asleep somewhere between New York and Hong Kong.
That’s it!
In addition to my iPad, Bill and I are taking cards, planning to watch some of the in-flight movies and he’s even packed a few books (he’s pretty old school!).
I also snagged a stylish case for my iPad just before leaving so that I could travel safely, and in style.
Kate Spade ipad case
At $50, it was a bit pricey, but it was the perfect size and I couldn’t resist the classic Kate Spade green accents.

A look back: Our anniversary

Awhile back Bill and I celebrated our first anniversary and I realized I never shared the photo! We went to a great Italian dinner and then to see a great show at the local theater. I can’t believe it’s been a year since we got married. So much has happened in that time, but we still have so much to do!

We’ll be spending 10 days in Bali in a few weeks to finally celebrate our honeymoon and I can’t wait to get out of town (and the country) with just the two of us.

Desk Update {and a giveaway}

Update: Brittany is the big winner! Thanks, everyone!

Remember like months ago when I was shopping for desks and chairs? Yeah, I pretty much forgot too! :)

I finally convinced Bill to desk shop with me and we even got my IKEA boxes put together into a real desk! However, the chair has been another story. Let’s just say there was a mix up on the color (I want yellow, not green please!) so I’m still waiting for my chair to arrive. Urban Outfitters has been really helpful though and gave me some great credits since they couldn’t rush my chair to me. Who knew that Urban Outfitters furniture is made to order??

Anyone, here’s a preview of where my desk is today:

Updates to come:

  • Change the hardware – the hardware that came with this desk really blend in so I want to add something more decorative
  • Set up my laptop, etc
  • Paint my side table – I’m thinking about painting it yellow and adding a decorative stencil on the flat top
  • Hang art – I’m planning to flank either side of the top of my desk with those tall frames you see on the left. I’m still in search of the perfect fabric to frame
Speaking of hanging art… Check out this great piece of art I had made:
As I was working on picking out art for the wall around my desk, I was contacted by a great company called Easy Canvas Prints. Just as the name describes, it’s a super easy way to turn your photo prints into canvas art. Here’s the easy process I went through to get this great piece:
  1. Chose my size – I chose an 8″x10″
  2. Uploaded my image directly from my desktop
  3. Selected my border option – I chose to go with the basic (my sides are white)
  4. Added any image effects – I didn’t add any since this photo was previously edited by my wedding photographer
That was it! Once I finish my DIY art, I’ll be hanging this great memory right above my desk for all to see!
Want to win one of these beautiful pieces? Now’s your chance! I’ll be giving away one canvas print to a lucky winner.

On the hunt for: A yellow accent chair

Why is it that when you finally set your mind to buying something, you just can’t find it! I’m working on a brand new space in our apartment that will be a little office for me to blog in, work from and in general just have ‘my space.’ We have a home office but it’s basically become Bill’s office and he’s set up shop there. This will be my space!

I want to design the entire space in grays, yellows and maybe a hint of light blue. This will go with our comforter since the home office is in the open loft that is also our bedroom.

Bill is convinced that this whole project should be under $300 but it’s been super hard! Here are the chairs that I like, some of which I’m considering. What do you think?

Lamps Plus Chair

($320 from Lamps Plus)

Target Canary Chair

($240 and 250 from Target)

Yellow Accent Chair

($200 from rando online store)

What do you all think? I think that the last, most affordable one could be really great looking, but it also may be less comfortable than the others. I also have to worry about the arms being too talk for the desk. I love this design (although I’m not sure I want this specific one from IKEA).

IKEA Leksvik desk

($150 from IKEA)

Introducing… my family!

Have you met them? They’re really lovely people. And pretty stylish if I do say so myself. Here’s the clan:

From left to right: Brett (Lydia’s husband), Malena (their daughter!!!), Lydia (second sister), Kelli (youngest sister), Dad, Mom, Me, Bill, Laura (oldest sister), William (Laura’s husband)

Quite the group, huh? P.S. I’m obsessed with the dress I bought for this wedding. It’s from Macy’s INC collection. The sandals are Laura’s.
