I’ve been trying to decorate without spending too much money. While I’ve spent a lot on a few things (like $20 for a great little canvas to be seen tomorrow), I wanted to make some of it myself to save on cash.
I originally got the idea from an HGTV show where they wanted to make some cheap art to help stage a house that was for sale. They essentially did the same thing I did, except they make about 10 squares and then haphazardly connected them together to make a large mural. Here’s my final product:
Here’s how I made it:
Items needed:
- foam board
- utility knife
- pencil
- spray adhesive
- something with a straight edge on it (I used the level from my tool kit)
- 12 x 12 scrapbooking squares of your choice
What to do:
- Start by lining up your paper on the foam board and just trace around it. It’s easiest if you do this from the corner to reduce the number of cuts needed.
- Then begin cutting the board with the utility knife. It may take a few times over to get through the thick foam board.
- Lay the cut squares down on the ground and spray on the adhesive in a thin, even coat. (Do this outside to avoid getting spray adhesive everywhere and to be in a well-ventilated area!)
- Finally stick on the scrapbooking paper and you’re done!
I ended up hanging mine with those 3M dorm-style command vecro thingys. This way if I want to switch up the order, I can do so easily and there are no nails going through my new art!
That’s it! Super easy! Look for a post on the rest of the living room tomorrow!
