Top Knot Power

Sometimes when I’m running late but still want to feel ready for the day ahead, I go with the top knot. I don’t have to fully blow dry my hair, but I still look put together. I’ve been trying out a few different versions. This is more on the ballerina side of the top knot as it’s more structured. Lately I’ve been going with more of a messy version but I still like this.

Have you tried the top knot? How do you wear yours?

Layering It Up

I often get comments from friends that I never wear the same thing twice. While I would love to have the wardrobe to pull that off, it often appears that way. How do I do it? By layering various pieces in new ways each time I wear them keeps my outfits fresh and my wardrobe afforable.

I’ve worn this dress so. many. times. I mean I should probably make a rule I need to wait to wear it again for awhile but I love it. It fits perfectly. It’s unbelievably comfortable. And it’s one of those dresses that I can wear with anything.

Add a key accessory (like a scarf) and it’s a totally different look than if I add a sweater, which is also different from how it looks with a shirt underneath. The list goes on.

When I decided to wear it this week I immediately wanted to look for a new way to wear it. I was in a LBD rut of sorts. Then I realized it would be perfect with this cowl neck dress shirt I don’t wear enough (let’s be honest – I’m just not a business casual girl).

Happy Birthday to Me!

I recently celebrated another birthday and while I’m starting to feel like this whole getting old thing is for the birds, I had a great time celebrating with close friends. We did dinner and drinks in my neighborhood and I couldn’t have asked for a better night.

The past few years I’ve made it a tradition to spend the day of my birthday shopping with leftover Christmas and new birthday money. I finally made it to my local Kohl’s (I thought the closest one was about an hour away but found one only 20 minutes from my apartment) and did some serious damage!

This dress and the boots were both birthday shop-o-rama purchases. While I definitely don’t think this was the best angle for this shot (I’m still training him (: ), I may be obsessed with this dress. I got it super cheap given that it’s definitely a summer dress, but I paired it with my warmest leggings and a pair of riding boots to stay warm. I can’t wait to find lots of ways to wear it as the weather warms up.

Matchy matchy

I was reading in Lucky Mag the other day about how the idea of matching your accessories is coming back. While they were mostly talking about color, I love the idea of matching prints, fabrics (think of patent and patent!) or something else.

I decided to give it a try with matching my bag to my shoes. I decided to make them stand out by giving them a basic backdrop.

What do you think? Is matching accessories back in or are you more of an eclectic dresser (like me!)?
