Saks Fifth Avenue recently invited a few bloggers and I to join them for a Barefaced Blogger Brunch. Yes, I said barefaced. As in, sans makeup.
Now I’m not a beauty expert by any means (I’m a big fan of find something that works and stick with it) and I do go places sans makeup, but if I know there are photos to be taken, I always at least put on a little foundation to even my skin tone and a touch of eye liner to brighten up my eyes. If I had to choose only one makeup type for the rest of my life it would be eye liner. I’m addicted.
But…. anyway! Back to the brunch. The group of us all, somewhat shyly, introduced ourselves to the Saks team that greeted us with OJ and doughnuts (doughnuts make everything better, of course!) and got to work.
I was lucky enough to have the head of the Saks beauty department do my makeup. His background is in doing makeup at New York Fashion Week. Once he had his fill of runway beauty, he moved on to become one of Estee Lauder’s top beauty consultants in the midwest. He’s talented.
As he sat me down in one of two chairs in the Chanel section (swoon!), He talked to me about my concerns with my face and skin (dryness around the jaw and oiliness in my T-zone) and what I was looking for (anything that I could wear to work and then to the STLFW event later that evening). He was great about talking me through why he was doing what he was doing and how I could do it at home.
When he turned the chair at the end, I was stunned by how well he played up my eyes without applying a ton of eyeliner. He used eye shadow to draw attention to my eyes instead.
