Fancy Menswear

Do you buy something that you absolutely love even though you expect others to hate it? I know that sounds ridiculous, but hear me out.

I came across this top at Nordstrom Rack for only $15. I LOVED the studded collar and loved the bagginess even more. I fully expected Bill to despise it given it’s menswear-inspired and not in the sexy check-out-how-hott-I-look-in-a-super-tight-men’s-blazer-and-oxfords way. (Whew, I’m tired of typing hyphens.)

When we decided to hit up the Schlafly Tap Room (I highly recommend it if you love sitting a booth drinking good beers and eating pub grub all night) the other night, I got ready and came out of our room fully expecting him to say something negative about my top. Instead, he said, “Where’d you get that shirt? It’s cool.”

Woohoo! Anytime I can find a shirt I love for a good deal and not be a Man Repeller, that’s a good night!

Here’s my Man Repeller/flying squirrel look. You like?

Do you have any clothes that you just knew your partner would hate? Did they?

I have three items of clothing my significant other hates, one being a floral peter pan collar shirt, the other two being pants, my leopard print and a floral pair. For whatever reason, he hates the patterned stuff (namely floral.) Sometimes I buy stuff, and I think to myself, my BFF or SO are going to hate this. But, I do it anyway, because ultimately, it’s not what they like, it’s what I feel good in. :-)

Isn’t it funny how our partners seem to hate some of things we love? My husband isn’t a big fan of lipstick, which I’m just starting to love. He just has to get over it! :)

I recently bought a bowtie, and wore it in a classy, girly way (of course!). I totally didn’t expect anyone to like it, but then again, I LOVED it, and that’s all that mattered at the time haha! There’s always going to be people who like and dislike things, but if you don’t take the risk, you’ll never know!

p.s. For the record, I adore your shirt. :)

Oooh a bowtie sounds super fun, Erica! That is one look I haven’t tried yet but would love to bust out with some super high heels!

      Thanks! xx

I have a shirt I snagged at a thrift store that is one of those “ugly in a fashionable way” sort of finds. It’s this hideous polyester fabric, with essentially balloon arms and kind of loose (I’m really selling it here, I know), but it has such a unique almost Aztec print to it in bright colors. I love it. The fiance? Hates it. With a passion. I always wonder if he considers pulling it out of our closet when I’m not looking.

But he will concede that when I wear it with a pencil skirt and cropped black blazer to work it looks good. And I wore it with red shorts and topped it with a chambray shirt and that was alright, too, he guessed. (I have to wear something over it to cover the ugly shape of the arms!)

I love this shirt! But maybe not the flying squirrel look 😉

      That shirt sounds amazing, Rachel!

I often coax Bill into liking something by starting out with it under some layers. Add a blazer and some leggings and he’ll never know that this dress is ridiculous. Then, the next time I wear it in all its glory, he’s been warmed up!

I’ve always wanted to be a hat wearer but alas, it’s just not working for me.

Men can definitely pull off hats much easier though!
